Newport Shores Neighborhood Brief

Newport Shores sits just to the south of downtown Bellevue at lake level, tucked between the shoreline and the base of the hill that rises toward Eastgate. Instead of winding roads and steep climbs, you find an organized grid of canals, wide streets, and homes oriented toward the water. It feels calm, open, and purposefully designed for life on Lake Washington.

Most of the community was built in the 1960s, when the vision for Newport Shores centered on relaxed, single-story living. Ranch homes and split-levels lined the canals and interior streets, many with private docks or direct slips into the lake. Over time, that original footprint evolved into a blend of classic mid-century homes and modern luxury rebuilds. Buyers today often look here for the chance to renovate or design something new while keeping the waterfront lifestyle that defines the neighborhood.

Newport Shores is also known for its strong community rhythm. The Newport Yacht Club anchors the neighborhood with a marina, pool, tennis courts, and year-round programming. Summers are especially lively. Friends host barbecues on back patios, families drift through the canals in kayaks, and boat owners head out for sunset cruises. Some of my favorite memories involve visiting friends here in the warmer months, stepping onto a dock right from their backyard, or watching parties drift by on pontoon boats.

Even though the neighborhood feels tucked away, it offers excellent connectivity. The I-90 bridge is right next door, putting Seattle, Mercer Island, and Bellevue within easy reach. I-405 and Coal Creek Parkway give fast access to the rest of the Eastside. Newport Shores itself is entirely residential, so most shopping and dining happens in Factoria, Eastgate, or downtown Bellevue just a short drive away.

With roughly a third of the homes sitting directly on the water, and the entire community designed around lake access, Newport Shores offers one of the most unique living experiences in Bellevue. It combines boating culture, quiet residential streets, and the convenience of being minutes from major job centers. For anyone who has dreamed of living on or near the water, this is one of the Eastside’s standout neighborhoods.
